Benefits of multi-source heat pump systems
The efficiency of a ground source heat pump depends on the temperature of the heat transfer liquid from the ground. While the ground is a reliable source of heat in all circumstances, other sources can provide higher temperatures, especially daytime.
Using PVT Panels
PVT stands for Photo-Voltaic-Thermal. It is a PV panels with a thermal collector installed behind the solar cells.
The same heat transfer liquid that collects energy from the ground is circulated in the PVT panels which make the whole system more efficient.
Using an air collector
An air collector is a heat exchanger that transfer heat from outside to the heat transfer liquid in the ground collectors. If the air collector is set to come on when it is relatively warm outside, usually around 7°C, it can add thermal energy to the system and make it more efficient.
Using industrial processes
Many industrial and agricultural processes produce heat as a by-product. Such heat can be used in a multi-source system to increase efficiency.
